Logins
How the heck do I login to this site?!
Only East Allegheny class of 1996 graduates can login to the site.  Your login name is your first name, and last name at the time of graduation, separated by a space (i.e. "Emma Suter").  Your name should be entered exactly as it appears in our Classmate Directory - which was taken from the senior yearbook.  If you don't know your password, you can request it from one of the site administrators or contact Dan Rullo directly.  Once logged in, you are encouraged to change your default password.
I forgot my password.  Can it be reset or retrieved?
Next to the "Login" button, there's a button that allows you to retrieve your password.  This, of course, requires your account to be linked to an email address and for you to have access to the email account.  If you need your password to be reset, contact a site administrator or Dan Rullo directly.
My last name is different now.  Why do I have to login using my last name at the time of graduation?
You just do!  But the technical answer is that accounts are linked very closely to other data throughout the site (yearbook photos, etc.) that is dependent on your name at the time of graduation.  Since everybody had a last name at graduation, but not everybody has a new last name, your graduation last name was the logical choice as a common link when the site was developed.  Also, last names can change multiple times but your graduation last name is constant.

Site Content
Can I upload a current photo of myself or change the one that's there?
Absolutely!  Just login and edit your profile.  The profile editor has a tab where you can upload photos and designate one as your "primary" photo.  By default, the first one uploaded will automatically be the primary photo.  If you delete the primary photo, another one will be automatically selected (but can be changed) if more photos exist in your gallery.
How do I add my own answers to the Question/Answer Summary or add myself to the Activity Teams List?
When you login and edit your profile, there are tabs that allow you to answer the survey questions and associate yourself with any groups that you belonged to in school.
Some of the data related to classmates is inaccurate.  Can somebody update it?
Our preference is for each classmate to modify/update their own data.  So we recommend that you reach out to that classmate and ask them to update their info.  If that is not a viable option (classmate is unavailable), contact a site administrator or Dan Rullo directly to update the data.
Why do some classmates not have class photos?
All available photos were taken from the senior yearbook.  If a classmate didn't have a senior photo, or it wasn't submitted to the yearbook, it isn't present here.  If you are a classmate that is missing a senior photo but you have one from that year, send it over and we'll add it.
Why isn't everybody's birthday on the calendar?
In order for a birthday to appear on the calendar, it must be added to the classmate's profile.

Site Terms of Use
Can EVERYBODY see my contact info?
No, only people who login to the site can view contact info that the owner has chosen to share. By default, your contact info is marked private, which means that even people who login cannot see it. If you choose to do so, you can enable the profile option that shares your contact info with classmates who login to the site. Nobody outside of the EA class of 1996 will be given a login account and therefore, cannot see your contact info. However, public info (names, pictures, etc.) are viewable to anybody who visits the site.

NOTE: If you chose to share your information on the old website from the 10-year reunion, that setting carried over to this newer site as well since it uses the same database.

Can I let a friend or somebody else use my login to access the site?
We have taken extra care to ensure that contact info is not accessible to anybody outside of our class. As such, we require that your login account only be accessed by you and must not be shared with anybody.
Can I share some of the content from this website?
All content on the site is copyrighted/trademarked material and may not be shared without written approval. Please see the copyright info in the page footer.
Can I submit content (News, Links, etc.) to be displayed on the site?
If it's district-related, sure. But if it's not related to our graduating class or the district in general, it probably won't be approved. If you have a business that you'd like to promote, your profile is probably the best place for that. However, if you are running a promotion that directly relates to our class (discounts for classmates, etc.), we can post it.

Site Usability - Support
Should I use the site's Message Board, or should I post messages on the Facebook page?
That depends... the Message Board will only be seen by visitors of this site, but is a good location for info that pertains specifically to us. The Facebook page has a wider audience, but content there can get burried by other posts since we allow anybody to join that page. Generally, we recommend posting to the Facebook page because so many people are on it. Hey if you're unsure, post to both.
Why are some pages (Classmate Directory, etc.) slow to load?
Two reasons: First, some of the pages load a lot of data from various resources (database, filesystem, etc.) and must load it all at once so that it can be displayed on-demand when certain links are clicked. Second, we have no operating budget and are on a very low-cost infrastructure that requires us to share hosting space with other sites. That means that server resources are limited and often heavily stressed. Be patient please.
Why do certain things on the site not work on certain platforms (login from mobile devices, etc.)?
The website was not designed to be mobile-friendly and no plans are in the works to make it so. Since development/maintenance of the site is done on a part-time volunteer basis, we are keeping it simple. The site has been tested and validated on current desktop versions of the major modern browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari). We expect features such as pop-up forms, photo galleries, login authentication, etc. to work on those platforms. If you're having trouble, please make sure that you have a current version of your browser, and disable 'Compatibility Mode' for Internet Explorer if it's enabled for our site. If you need support, contact Dan Rullo and he'll do his best to help you as time allows.
Why does the Facebook content on the home page sometimes not display, or is slow to load?
We have absolutely no control over this. The Facebook API provides a mechanism for pointing to the content that you want to display. All of the magic that takes place for that to happen, is in the hands of Facebook. Sometimes even magic breaks, try again later.
